THE COUNTER ENCOUNTER

A SMALL PIECE TO SHOW MY ABILITIES IN FICTIONAL WRITING. THE CHARACTERS IN THIS PIECE ARE FICTIONAL

Watching out the window of her dorm room, Heather felt a sudden irritation come over her, burning inside of her as she watched her roommate walking hand in hand with Josh, the only one guy she’d ever wanted. At 6′-2″, Josh, had a muscular body that seemed to weaken her.
As she sat there watching them from the second floor dorm window, her mind went back to two days ago at the local burger place where Josh worked behind the counter.
Sitting. Watching. She could only admire him from a distance. A distance she was determined to shorten. Heather felt that she finally had the courage to actually talk to him. She aproached him with seeming confidence. But when their eyes made contact, a sudden hesitation came over her.
“Uhh, A diet coke, please”, she said with a shy like smile. Josh went to fill the order while Heather just turned, leaning her back against the counter.
She laid a hand over her eyes, covering her embarrassement. She thought to herself, “A diet coke? Heather you idiot,” shaking her head in disbelief.
Not waiting for the drink she’d ordered Heather walked away hating herself for losing her courage so quickly.
Now, here she sits today, watching and hating her roommate, for being so close to Josh.
